With Cam Newton firmly entrenched in the Panthers starting quarterback slot for the foreseeable future, former 2010 second round pick Jimmy Clausen doesn't have many opportunities to make an impression. Until Friday's OTA session, that is. With Newton out of town due to a scheduling conflict on behalf of his charitable foundation (a situation head coach Ron Rivera inadvertently caused by moving up the OTA schedules an extra day) Clausen and veteran QB Derek Anderson took extra reps with the first team. Tom Sorenson elaborates:
“I think I’m getting better each and every day,” Clausen says. “Just come out and work hard. The more reps you get, the more times you watch tape, you see different things. You start getting a feel for this game. The speed of the game is probably the biggest adjustment. Now that it’ll be my third year it’s kind of slowing down to me.”
Rivera sees it.
“Jimmy has done some things that will really tell you he has the opportunity and the chance to play,” Rivera says. “And I think the thing that’s been good to see is how his teammates have come around.”
